He didn't stop to think that perhaps he should find a more legitimate source, because he wasn't making a point other than finding the posted article to be interesting. I'm sure he would have found the Smithsonian article interesting as well.

Not everything needs to be fact checked. Sometimes we just like seeing cool things. I see photoshopped pictures all the time that I think are cool, funny, silly, stupid... but I don't go crying that they're not legitimate because of the source.

Sometimes we just need to let the little things go.
