Autistic kids and driving. My son is 15 now so we can get him his permit
to allow us to teach him how to drive. My son is high functioning and I really don't think there is going to be an issue with him driving but you just never know.

Although I do worry about it because if he were to get in an accident where some one was badly hurt, I wonder if they would bring a lawsuit against us if they found out my son was autistic and we let him drive.

Anyone else been through this already or have any of you with kids on the spectrum worried about this kind of thing yet? What about car insurance, does anyone have any experience with getting insurance for autistic kids? Is it a problem for insurance companies to insure these kids?

I'm not going allow my son to drive by himself until I feel comfortable enough that I think he can handle it. He may be older when that happens but I can't in good conscience let him drive alone until he is ready.

Maybe I'm worrying about something I don't need to, I don't know.
