The point I'm making there is that I don't believe ticket sales were driven by the MWC or WAC conference race. I think people the type of fan that will go to a BYU/UNLV game in November are the type of fan that will go whether we're in the conference championship race or not.

It was satisfying to win the MWC and the WAC. But going to a game was fun for the atmosphere and for watching your beloved Cougars play a game. It is a blast to gear up and go scream at Chow for running the ball on 1st and 10 or 3rd and 25 (who doesn't bellow out a "C'mon Chow!!" at least once per game?). Go to walk around the stadium, get into the chants, whine because the band is playing while we're trying to call a play, cheer for your Chevrolet car to win the fake race.. Watch a BYU QB throw (or now run) over a defense. Hang out with your kids or parents. Etc. Etc. Etc..

There are a million reasons to go to games at LES and I don't think "Watch them play for the WAC/MWC conference title" ever cracked the top 100. And I certainly don't get the fans that are now giving up their season tickets because we're trading Colorado State and New Mexico for Cincinnati and East Carolina.
