It really cuts down on the amount of time that you guys spend in line. Essentially, both you and your wife can get separate fast passes, and then when both goes, ask for a switch pass.

There is the Irvine zoo/park. That's fun for half a day. Pretty sure there's an aquarium in Orange County too. Then there is always the ocean and the beach. Santa Monica and Newport beaches aren't that far away.
