We were lucky to have two very clear days, luckily the days we went to the summer palace in the Great Wall. The other days were terrible. In Nanjing, it seemed every other day was pretty smoggy for three plus weeks, and I have a noticeable sore throat when I walked long distances. Most of days is been in Shanghai the skies were pretty clear.

Overall though I love itd visiting China and will do it again.
