i really don't get the "proximity" argument against BYU
when B1G grabbed NJ and Maryland and Neb they PURPOSEFULLY stretched their footprint to new territories and markets. diddo for SEC grabbing Mizzou and TAMU and P12 for Utah and CU. they went FURTHER than they had ever gone before (geographically speaking) when they expanded.

now the Big12 is "restricted" to the midwest? really? rumor had it they were flirting with AZ schools and FSU at somepoint. geography, in today's world, is really not that big of a deal and, in fact, adds value to tv contracts as you can schedule games and kickoffs in multiple time-zones.

will it make WVU cringe if BYU is added? sure...a little bit (olympic sport travel) but not if it adds more FB value and helps strengthen and bolster faltering Big12. expansion has NEVER been about grabbing teams in your existing footprint. BYU fits the mold, in that regard. and even if Utah/SLC is "huge" market, it's decent and you have to figure in #'s from all over country with BYU.
