New ABC television program, Quantico, is coming out in Sept
My family went to the San Diego county fair on Thursday. One of the exhibits was one by ABC and it was showing the pilot for a new show slated for release this fall called 'Quantico'. The premise is an incoming class of FBI recruits from around the country to the Quantico VA FBI facility, their assimilation into the training and each other, and finally a major terrorist attack 6 months after their graduation.

One of the recruits, Eric, was from SLC. He was pretty clean cut, showed him leaving a sacrament meeting with friends congratulating him. At Quantico, Eric and roommate are in room unpacking and roommate turns around and there is Eric standing in his garments. Roommate asks if he always dresses with his pajamas on. Then remarks, Oh you are Elder Eric aren't you. He asks where he went on his mission, he went to Malawi (Africa). An openly gay recruit, who seems to be omnipresent, happens by the door at that moment and speaks to Eric in Malawi. Who speaks Malawi? Appears ABC is going to make the gay everyone's friend and the resident expert in all things.

One of the first tasks given to the recruits is to randomly select a info packet of a fellow recruit and in 24 hours find out what missing piece of info/intell on that recruit is missing. The person selecting Eric's packet soon begins intimidating Eric that he found out what he did on his mission. This continued on several occasions and caused Eric to secret a gun onto his person. Part of the exercise is to get the target recruit to confess to the missing piece of info/intell. As Eric goes into the interview room he barricades the door, shoots an attending agent in the room dead, and turns the gun on the fellow recruit. After a short standoff, Eric commits suicide. Next scene, the recruit did not have any intell on Eric, but because of Eric's actions, the FBI digs deaper and find that Eric impregnated a 14 yo Malawi, took her to get an abortion where the girl dies.

Pretty nice, huh?

Of course, the rest of the show has plenty of gratuitous sex, over the top racism, and as mentioned above, coddling of an openly gay character.

ABC remains way over the top in its representation of cultures, religions and stereotypes. Any idea how this shoe will go over in the Utah market?
