Cheering for Utah is still a "bridge too far" for me, but I always like it when
USU (my alma mater) does well. USU fans can be obnoxious, but so can BYU fans. Ultimately the demographic of the two schools is roughly similar (LDS), so it kills me when each fanbase acts like the other is from another planet. Also, the longer the military keeps me away from Utah, the more I soften to the idea of cheering for all Utah schools- to most outside of Utah they don't know the difference between Utah, USU, and (to a lesser extent) BYU.

One other thing that's refreshing about USU fans: they know what they are (an underdog, not a "big boy") and they relish the role. They don't mind playing in the MWC because they understand what they are- there's no identity crisis like there is among BYU fans.

Sometimes I think that BYU would be better served by remembering that we have never, until recently, been seen as a "big boy", and that all of our successes over the last 40 years were as the underdog.
