I just looked it up
it's top 3 protected through 2017. It's unprotected in 2018.
I guess the Lakers assume that they won't be bottom 3 bad, so they've propped up the talent level just enough to compete. I assume that Hibbert is a stop gap and Kobe retires after this season. They should have a ton of cap space next summer.
