Yes you could do it much cheaper on your own. Take Eurostar from London to Paris
and then do your own thing while there. 3 days would hardly be enough time if you were just doing things in Paris, but if you want to go up and see the Normandy area as well then you need at least 3 days (and I would recommend more if possible). The Normandy area is beautiful, and has a lot of great places like Honfleur, Deauville, and the rocky shores of Etretat along with the many D-day sites. I'd rent a car and do most of it on your own. The price you are paying is to not have to worry about planning anything, so if you want to just go and enjoy and not worry about planning, it might be worth the money for you. I'd rather go on my own, at my own pace, and see the things I want to.
