Not sure about that. Have you ever been in a country that was marching toward
the World Cup final, during the latter stages of a World Cup? I have, a couple of times, and nothing I have ever seen compares to it. People who normally have no interest in sports are obsessed with the World Cup, and are almost paralyzed by it. Factories have to shut down because not enough people show up. Not only is the national team the #1 item leading the news every day, it is the only item in the news every day. The entire nation is united behind one team with a passion that is hard to describe.

I think it would be less that way in the US, just because of the status of pro soccer here compared to these other countries, but I think it would still be like nothing we've ever seen in the US, sports-wise. It wouldn't just be an excuse to party, or an event that only gamblers and fans of two teams really care about, but a team that hundreds of millions of Americans are united behind, as the world watches. Probably a once-in-a-lifetime event, as opposed to an annual event like the Super Bowl.
