Best options for BYU at this point...
1) Get invited into a Big 12 that adds at least 2 but hopefully 4 teams to stabilize the conference.

2) BYU stays independent but gains more and more respect as schedules and home games (especially in November) gradually improve. The Big 12 remains a conference and the playoffs expand to 8 teams where BYU has greater access to be selected as an at-large team.

3) The Big 12 implodes but Texas does not join the PAC. This would mean several things. For starters, it would probably mean that if there were 4 major conferences some (or all) of the super-conferences would have 18 not 16 teams. It would also mean the PAC would have to expand to at least 16 teams and if they couldn't land Texas why would they want to go so far east for the likes of any of the other mid-west contenders? I could never imagine a situation that Oklahoma or Kansas would be in the PAC (without Texas). This would eventually open the door (perhaps begrudgingly so) for BYU to join the Pac as a football only partner. There are only so many options out west. It would probably be in their best interest to simply bite the BYU bullet and add CSU, SDSU, Boise, etc.
