If it's legal and you don't have kids, it seems like there is a market for it.
Might not be a bad retirement option either. The people in the two examples took gambles that didn't pay off.

In my area, people are having trouble selling their 7 bedroom colonial houses because few people have need for houses of that size and the cost that comes with it.

More and more people are single forever or never had children; demographics could help this trend take off.
