SEC coaches are working for schools that have a history of playing top-level competition (i.e. the SEC)...you know, that little conference down south that won 7 national championships in a row...
On the other hand, you have KWhitt, who:
1) Works for a school that from 1970 until 2003 road the coattails of its "hated" rival,
2) Works for a school that until 2004 (one could argue) hadn't had a real football program in 40 years, and
3) Works for a school that until 2010, when the football gods smiled down on the only school in Utah with a stadium that holds more than 40,000 fans not named BYU, was beating the "Don't we deserve to be considered one of the big boys?" along with every other MWC member.
So, NO, when an SEC coach makes such a comment, it's not a big deal. But, YES, when a coach with KWhitt's pedigree and scholastic association makes the same comment, it's questionable as he seems to conveniently forgotten where he and his little band came from.
