People have to stop thinking of it as the Pac 12, the Big 12, etc. It makes more sense for Division 1 football to become a 64 team league with 4 16 team conferences (conferences being something like the "Pacific", "Midwest", "Northeast", and "Southeast"). Each conference would have two 8 team divisions. The champion from either side would play a conference championship game and the 4 conference champions would square off in a national championship playoff. If you wanted to included the likes of BYU, Boise, Houston, etc. they could form 4 conferences of 18 teams and grab 8 additional schools.
