Currently work for them.
I work for the operations and technology support group, TOPS, specifically Quality Assurance and software testing.

To start off, pay & benefits. The pay is not out of this world good, but you can't expect a bank to be loose with money, it isn't their nature. I have received good raises every year and they will pay you fairly, most technology positions are at market averages and slightly better. I have never experienced any instability in job security in the last 8 years, even through the worst years of the recession. Occasional downsizing will occur dependent on future needs but I have never seen huge, sweeping layoffs.

Benefits are a huge area of contention for many employees. Health Plans for Utah are high deductible. Cheapest premiums for families are $100 per month with a $10K out of pocket/deductible. You then have a $200 premium with $9K out of pocket, $6k deductible with 75/25 cost sharing up to out of pocket. There is one more plan, but I can't remember the details, but you do pay considerably more in premiums. No money is provided for HSA's and deductibles, you fund it all yourself. No Eye/Dentist insurance, but instead a 50/50 reimbursement plan up to a certain amount (in the thousands), which honestly is the worst aspect of all the benefits as it makes purchasing glasses or simple dental cleanings an expensive proposition. Life insurance is super cheap and the 401K is matched up to 100% on first 3% and 50% on the next 2%, no requirements on how long the company stock must be held, you can move it around right away. Most salaried employees start out with 3 weeks PTO with sick time accrued separately while the higher pay grades get 4 weeks PTO. All salaried employees eventually top out at 4 weeks dependent on years of service.

Culture and work environment is completely dependent on where you are and what you do, though most areas would be conservative in nature. It won't be like working for a new startup or tech company that showers employees with crazy benefits and perks.

Overall, Zions is like a nice security blanket. You'll enjoy good stable work but don't expect to become wealthy until you get yourself into the skilled positions or management. If you are in an internship, you'll obviously be using that time to experience these things for yourself.
