A few reasons other than money are at stake...
1. Scheduling is great for September if we are willing to travel. When we get to October and November especially for home games, we are unable to find good opponents. You might say that now three P5 conferences recognize BYU as equivalent of P5, we will be able to schedule more P5 teams later in the season. The problem is conference schedules. They prevent most teams from scheduling OOC in October and November.

2. And then there is access to better bowls. Without being in a P5 conference, I really think that you have to be undefeated to sniff a NY6 bowl. Without being in a P5 conference, there is next to no chance to being included in the playoff.

3. Recruiting is going to be inferior to if BYU is in a P5 conference. Yes, we will be playing many P5 teams but some players want to know that they will be going to their hometown to play in front of their hometown crowds at least once or twice in their college career. Plus they know their chances of showcasing their talents in a NY6 bowl or the playoff are diminished. Not all players will feel that way since BYU is Church owned and we will get our share of LDS athletes but some will choose elsewhere just because we are not in a P5 conference.

4. Even though money won't be bountiful in the future but I think being in a P5 conference will still net BYU more cash than being an independent. In a conference you have a lot more negotiation leverage than being by ourselves.
