ECU head coach Ruffin McNeill on BYU, Taysom Hill and Robert Anae:
I really like Ruffin McNeill, ECU head coach. Listened to his interview on BYUsn and he sounded like he'd be a great guy to play for. He talkd about his friendship with Robert Anae (called him Rob-O at times) and that they worked together at UNLV in the 90's and then spoke fondly about some associations earlier in his career during the Lavell Edward's era with the BYU football staff and program. Super classy guy.

One thing he said about his approach that I really liked was something to the effect of how important it is to create a culture of competition:

"we wanted to build competitive depth at each position...not just bring backup guys but guys who compete for starting positions." In another interview he commented that he doesn't visit and recruit backup players (or something to that effect).

Another thing he said that I thought was funny was when he was asked by Spencer how they plan to stop a QB like Taysom. McNeill's response was that "after they get done praying they gotta figure out a way to corral him. He's like a machine!" Funny guy, very gracious and complimentary of BYU, it's program, Coach Anae, Coach Edwards, Taysom, etc.

I liked his focus on the importance of building competitive depth in the program at each position and that guys aren't brought in to be backups, they're expected to compete for starting positions. There's no entitlement there, guys earn what they get in playing time.
