Interesting story about Paul Lasike
I have a friend that is a real Ute. Nice guy as long as we are not talking football but one of those guys that is always there to remind me how many years since we last beat them. He comes up to me one day for one of his usual gloat sessions with what he believes to be some juicy news. "My long-time, died in the wool cougar friend came up today to tell me he was joining the Crimson Club. He is denouncing BYU because Bronco has done him wrong. His son (who was a walk-on) earned a scholarship last season and now Bronco is taking it away just like that for some kid who plays rugby who has never put on pads! Can you believe that?!

This guy did not know how closely I follow BYU football, that I not only knew the walk-on in question but I also knew of this mysterious rugby player at least by name and a little about his rugby exploits (thanks to my habitual CB lurking). I realize that the father was not happy and his son even more so for losing something he had worked so hard for. I also realize that my friend was also exaggerating a little to rub in "another Bronco mistake" but I had to think to myself, even then, that Bronco knows what he is doing. No offense to the former player involved (who I hope no one looks him up and drags him into this as he was a gamer and had earned it) but he was the type of player that walks on to BYU every year.

Of course we all know what happened from there. Not only did Lasike bring a size, speed and physicality that is rarely seen at BYU, he is now standing out in an NFL training camp. I would not want to be in Bronco's shoes when he has to yank a schollie from a deserving young man (the kind with grit that many say that Bronco overvalues) to give it to a completely unproven commodity. But credit to the coach on this one. Paul is a special dude who did good things for us the last three years, all while still learning a foreign game.
