I am planning a trip end of April/beginning of May 2016. 8-9 days. Assume I am starting in Krakow. I have always wanted to see Auschwitz-Birkenau. At some point toward the end of the trip, I want to be in Budapest for two or three days. What should I see in between? Will I avoid the Rick Steves tours that early in the year? I would love to see a smaller, intact town with good local food at local prices instead of getting ripped off in a tourist trap.
