And Howell was hired as an intern when he came to BYU. Probably unpaid. He was
then made a graduate assistant for 2 years. After spending three years in the program as an intern and a GA, he was hired as a position coach. After spending 3 years as a position coach, he was made DC.

Everyone knows Howell sucked as a DC. But people act like he went straight from a HS coach to the DC position. After spending six years in the BYU program as an intern, GA, and position coach, what he did as a HS coach became pretty much irrelevant. It's like evaluating whether you're qualified to get your promotion at work based on how you performed during your summer job while you were 16
