It amazes me the obliviousness of some people. Not normally a problem, until
it starts affecting me.

I'm interviewing with a different company, potentially a really good opportunity for me. We've let our family members know about my interviewing with the company, all the good vibes we can get, right?

So this evening, my brother-in-law posts a funny meme about a product this new company makes on Facebook, he tags me, then writes something like, "when you get this job, look into it."

Great, so it now shows up in the news feed of EVERYBODY I currently work with that I am at very least moving towards a new job.

The fact that this isn't the first thing somebody thinks of astounds me. The really sad part is that this same brother-in-law had already done this kind of STUPID stuff on social media that's submarined his OWN career progression! When you're in your 30s and your DAD has to call you and tell you to take something down off your Facebook because anybody who you currently work with can see you're looking for a new job, you'd think it'd stick! Nooooope.

To make matters worse, because Facebook is SO good at giving you control over what others see that you're tagged in (eye-roll), after I clicked "remove tag," it said it was done. Whew. Minimized the damage, happens to catch it after only a few minutes. Then, when I checked about an hour later, YUP, still tagged, and when I click "remove tag" again I get an error that says, "unable to hide story." Great, so now it HAS been on everybody's news feed for an hour, during the prime check-your-feed-before-going-to-bed time before I text him and have to clue him in that he's potentially screwed me at work, ESPECIALLY if I DON'T get the new job, and to ask him to take it down.

Now, Facebook's issues aren't my BIL's fault, but good night, it floors me that people can be so oblivious about what they're broadcasting to the world ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE!!!
