both offensive and defensive players a basic and critical fundamental skill.

I don't get why that one bugs people. Everyone knows it doesn't literally mean "highest point".

Meet the ball at the highest point, that is physically possible for you as a human being (sans rocket pack), rather than wait for it to come to you. Simple.
