KW claims he's not using the cupcake thing for motivation
Do you believe any of this? I wouldn't put it past him to employ the Bob Stoops approach to locker room material in which you attribute totally made up quotes about your players to the other team. And he sure seems to use stuff like this for the Holy War, which seems to be something of a big game for him.

While his players are on record saying the heavy Michigan hype for the opener has become annoying to them, Whittingham said he hasn't used any of that to motivate his team.

Among things he could use, a reference to Utah as Michigan's cupcake opponent in no less of an authoritative voice than Popular Mechanics and the Harbus that Fox Sports 1 has rolled out, and the "Khaki Cam" camera angle that will focus on Harbaugh the whole game. Whittingham told Detroit Sports 105.1 on Tuesday that someone posted the cupcake reference in the Utah locker room, but said it wasn't a big deal.

"I haven't personally (used any of this for motivation), no, but our guys know what's out there, and understand that what's going on," Whittingham said on the Pac-12 conference call. "But if you can't get yourself ready for a season opener, particularly one against a team with the tradition and history that Michigan has, you shouldn't really need much to motivate a football team to get ready for a game like this.

"As coaches we've been going through our normal paces and our normal preparation process getting the guys ready. We do have a pretty experienced team coming back. We've got 17 returning starters, if there's ever a time you want to play a high-profile opener like this one, you want a bunch of guys who have played a lot of football for you and that's what we have this year, fortunately."
