Of all the footage they have for the show,
and given their hopes for a broad audience beyond BYU, it's not at all surprising they would include something in the first episode to highlight the fact that BYU isn't a LDS-only school/program.
It's more about the ultimate purpose of BYU, BYUtv, etc., than a totally proportional depiction of issues within the team.
