I've owned BMW's, Audi's, Mecedes'...all nice cars.

None of them have ever been as reliable, or as cheap to own and operate as the Japanese brands (Honda, Toyota, Subaru), though. If what you're going for is a relatively maintenance free, reliable used vehicle that doesn't cost too much to buy, BMW would be one of my last choices.
