Schools get into football because of the prestige it brings to the university.
Along with the prestige comes the ability to recruit big or bigger donors to their endowment program.
The schools have very small football budgets. Georgia Southern's budget is only $5M.
As a member of the Sunbelt conference it gets about $1.5 in distribution. It plays two mony games, this year, against WVU and Georgia. Ticket sales cover the rest of their expenses.
