My gameday experience
I went solo to the Michigan game from AZ and I’m glad I did. I was able to interact a little with Michigan fans and get to know a few BYU fans. Hung out with BYU fans at the Tigers game as well, which ended up being a blast. I enjoyed cruising around Ann Arbor and Detroit, checking out the sites that I wanted to see and I would recommend that everyone try traveling somewhere by themselves and immersing yourself in experiencing new sites at your own pace.

Walking right behind me up to the stadium before kick-off, right off of E Stadium Drive over the bridge was a middle-aged woman bragging loudly to her colleagues about how she was the one who broke the story about Mitt Romney and his dog on top of his car. She was saying that she kept pushing her boss for several weeks to publicize the story when they finally gave her the green light she went all crazy with it and was taking credit for the impact it had on Mitt’s eventual defeat. I turned around and quipped saying so you’re the one to blame for Romney’s defeat. She proudly stuck her chest out and said oh yeah! I then said notice how I said “blame” and not “credit.” She then said well, I couldn’t allow someone who does that to their dog to be the president. I then said, that is much better than what we have in the white house now. No comment from her after that, nor anyone else in her group. Of course Romney wasn’t defeated for the dog story, but it was funny how proud she was. She was wearing a lanyard with what looked to be media credentials so I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt and say that she is at least in the media.

Stadium was really cool. I was amazed how every seat was a good seat for over 108K, well except for a few fans that were a few rows up at the very top corner of the Southwest endzone that had their view of the northern field obstructed by a wall separating the seating sections. I felt bad for them, a couple there told me that they paid full price and was not told that there was a limited view. Even though I was way up in the nosebleeds, still had a pretty good and surprisingly close up view of the game. Nosebleeds at other venues are much higher and further away from the field (like Sun Devil stadium)

Interesting that inside the stadium had almost no markings anywhere, stating the multiple national championships, conference championships, Heisman trophy winners, etc. All the walls, press boxes, etc, were pretty much unmarked and just painted dark blue. Nebraska was just the opposite.

Can’t get that freegin Michigan fight song out of my head. It was catchy and played a lot during the game.

University of Michigan campus is impressive.

The only play on offense to me that had the most success was Ho Ching blocking for Hine. I was getting frustrated after seeing a nice gain or two around the edge with good fullback blocking in the first couple of series and then it was abandoned for the rest of the game. I was able to chat with a couple of players after the game real quick and Ho Ching came out with an ice pack on his bruised wrist and said that he hurt his wrist after the first play, which pretty much kept him out of the rest of the game. Too bad, I think that would have opened things up for us with Hine behind Ho Ching. Then found out later on that Hine got hurt in second half and I can start to understand why the offense was still inept after halftime. I was actually expecting to see some productive adjustments in the second half, but what can you do when you only have Carter and an inexperienced Bernard?
The Michigan fans were meh, not very impressive, at least not the ones I was next to. I had to engage them and initiate any kind of interaction. But, they weren’t rude either. No where near as nice as Nebraska fans.

Even though that particular game did not end well, I was more than happy I went. Ever since I was a youth, wanted to watch a game in the Big House. I was actually a Michigan fan when I was a teenager. Glad I can mark that off my bucket list. To me the top college football venues were always Michigan and Notre Dame.
