We put our mission savings in my Roth IRA. Since contributions can be withdrawn
without penalty, we contribute enough to cover the cost of the mission and the gains on that will just be additions to my retirement. To be clear, these mission contributions don't displace any retirement contributions I would otherwise make. Most of my retirement contributions go into a Roth 401k. I don't yet contribute enough to retirement to be maxing out my Roth IRA.
