At the 2014 all-star break, the A's were the best team in baseball by a remarkable 5 games. Since then he has traded the following players in exchange for a roster that put the A's a distant dead last in the American League:
- His former 3rd baseman (Donaldson) will likely get the MVP for the Blue Jays
- Left Fielder (Cespedes) single-handedly jump started the Mets offense to the tune of .604 slugging percentage and 44 RBI is 55 games
- The hope for the future (Addison Russell) is now the starting shortstop for the Cubs
- 1st baseman/outfielder (Moss) is the left-fielder for the Cardinals
- #2 starter (Kazmir) is the #2 starter for the Astros
- #3 starter (Anderson) is the #3 starter for the Dodgers
- Utility man (Zobrist) is hitting close to .300 for the Royals
- Closer/set-up man (Clippard) is the set-up man for the Mets
- 1st baseman (Carter) is on the Astros
Beane also lost two players to free agency over the winter:
- Former SS, Jed Lowrie, went to the Astros
- Former #2 pitcher, John Lester, went to the Cubs
What a nightmare for Beane. He took the best team in baseball that was all set for 2014, 2015, and beyond and turned it into nearly the worst team in baseball. He did it by scattering his seven all-stars among a bunch of playoff teams.
