Had something kinda similar a couple of years ago. We have very large mature
trees on our side of the fence that cast shadows on the neighbors backyard. The neighbor has just as many trees and his entire backyard is wooded and in the shade for almost the entire day. One day the neighbor comes over to talk with me and tells me he planted a cherry tree in his yard in the shade of one of my trees and wanted to know if we wouldnt mind cutting back our tree so that the cherry tree could get sun and so that it could grow into the spot that he planted. I asked him how much he wanted us to cut back and he said if willing he wanted us to remove the whole tree. I told him we wanted to keep the tree and he seemed a little upset and even tried to tell me that his adult daughter who lives in California's favorite fruit is cherries and that he wanted to have cherries for her when she visited once a year. I told him we would trim back some of the tree. We did so but I think his cherry tree died pretty quick. I always thought it was kinda funny that rather than cutting back some of his trees and planting his cherry tree he planted the tree then asked us to cut back our tree. The guy is super nice though and the situation hasnt strained our relationship.
