Kinda wish BYU had a different offensive identity regarding trick plays
I am not a vehement supporter nor detractor of Dr. Bob Anae, but I think he has done the job at a fairly high level. With that being said, I would like to see more trick plays on offense and special teams. It seems like teams like Boise State and Texas Tech run many trick plays that seem to work more than they don't. I understand that some of these decisions come from Bronco, and he has never ran an abundance of tricky plays that some teams do. It may not be in his or Dr. Bob's DNA to do so. However, I don't know that BYU will ever commit to being a run heavy team that wins by being more physical in the trenches. I believe for BYU to become truly elite, they need to either have (A) an elite dual threat quarterback, (B) an elite pocket passer with sufficient O-line and run game, or (C) many trick plays with a mix of option B. Just seems successful trick plays help gain an edge, and they are momentum plays that can help turn the tide in a close game.
