Absolutely good for that.

I got the Surface Pro 3 last year (256GB HD, i5, 8GB Ram) and built several websites on it (using the Visual Studio 2015 Ultimate IDE). Literally, it was my main development "laptop" for 6 months since I purchased it. I've since switched over to Java (use CentOS now) and use the Surface Pro to compile and test Java FX 8 applications built for Windows, works like a charm for that too.

I use it constantly still for taking notes in meetings. Great like that. Be sure to get Office with OneNote for it.
