My son is playing football. At a recent social gathering, my wife mentioned this and essentially every mom couldn't believe we'd allow him to *gasp* play football.

I figured there'd been a downturn in interest since my childhood, but I was surprised at how overwhelming that sentiment seemed to be in our social circle.

Ironically, I don't sense any outrage at the largely sedentary lives kids are living presently.

In my ideal world, my kid would love sports that are free of concern for CTE but I'm not surprised that he's interested in the sports that dominate the American consumer market and I'd rather let him pursue sports he likes than force participation in the ones I choose.
