BTW- when she told us that the remote had been stolen out of her car back in
August, this actually made us doubt that it really was stolen because she didn't freak out and tell us right when it happened. In the past she would panic about much less than this because she gets scared very easily (she is a single mom living with her kids). We suspect that she now has a boyfriend that moved in with her (which technically is against the lease because he needs to be on the lease too- we arent sure that anybody is living there with her, though) and she just wanted a second remote for him.

So we told her that she would have to replace it and that she could work with her insurance, and she accepted that without any argument.
