I call this line of thinking, "College Football False Doctrine."
Sounds really good, makes a lot of sense. But when you take a deeper look you find truth. The truth is that most College Football teams don't sell out every game. Save for the SEC, Top P5 Teams and smaller stadium teams (ala Boise St), most stadiums are not sold out ( Think: WSU, Oregon St, TCU, Texas tech, USC, Duke, UNC, Wake Forest, Stanford, Cal, Northwestern, Iowa, Iowa St., Indiana, etc...). I very clearly remember just a few weeks ago when I was watching UW versus Utah St, at UW. The place was empty. Say what you want about the state of UW football, but it meets your line of thinking. They're a proud P5 team, sure going through a loll, but really no reason to not sell out that beautiful, scenic stadium. And yet, they rarely fill it. Big time games, sure. But not for Utah St.

I was at the UCONN game Friday night. While not full, I thought the atmosphere was great.
