You can see the shrinking of rural America in the HS football programs
In Montana you used to have 8-man football (class C) and 3 levels of 11-man football (class B, A and AA being the biggest). Now, because of shrinking rural communities a lot of HS are going into 6-man football because of the numbers. Also what used to be 11-man programs dropping to 8-man and so forth.

As populations move from agrarian societies to urban centers it's interesting to see how HS football adjusts as well to the changing landscape.
