Back when royal blue was the official color, people weren't buying BYU clothing
like they do now. Navy sells a lot more than royal and so it's worn more to games. My understanding is that's why the change was made. I could be mistaken.
It's easy to wear royal blue to games when everyone else is wearing it or when you're around other BYU fans, but it's an obnoxious color to wear normally.
