IMHO is due to the fact that he is playing the game (duh). My argument is that no amount of practice, I personally feel, is going to help a player progress as much as being in a game, especially when it's not garbage time. So, when coaches say that they don't have depth, I feel that is primarily their (the coaches) fault. You work players in so they can get in game experience so you can build depth. Some athletes are practice athletes (heaps) and some are game athletes. The problem is that by not getting players in game reps, we virtually restart every year in terms of depth.
I would love to see starters play the 1st quarter (of wagner) and then put in reserves and don't change the game plan (it isn't going to help hoge to just hand the ball off)
