The Cubs curse which dates back to 1908 has only been brought up here on CB by LeftOfNormal known in baseball lore as Merkle's Boner.
What has been overlooked by the media is that Cubs second baseman Larry Evers did something questionable and pressured the umps into enforcing a rule that had been widely ignored. The call put the Cubs into the World Series which they went on to win for the last time in 1908.
The billy goat thing only created by the media in the last 30 years is silly and only gets the Cubs in the World Series, a feat they had achieved many times in the 1930s and 1940s. Cubs must win the World Series or nothing has changed since 1908.
We have the real curse documented right here on CB that dates back to 1908. It was Johnny Evers' action which robbed a valiant kid, unfairly taking advantage of a 19 year old rookie who should have been an historic hero that would have vaulted the Giants into the World Series instead of the Cubs. The event became known as:
MERKLE'S BONER!

Maybe it should be named "Merkle's Betrayal."
P.S. A less publicized curse that lasted 1 year longer than Red Sox was the White Sox who last won the WS in 1917, then throwing the series to the Reds in 1919. No Question it feels better to have the curse of throwing the 1919 series in the past. Now for the greatest curse of all, Cubs can put Merkle's Boner to rest.
