I had the opportunity to watch him live in a playoff game vs Highland
Highland's star that year was of course Jake Toolson. From what I understand, Dastrup had been sick earlier in the week, so there should be some leniency in my evaluation, but this is what I saw.

Positives - He is coordinated for 6'10", not awkward like Nielsen or James Anderson. He has a great stroke, very smooth. Great range for his height, I think he hit more three's that night than 2's. He had a good head on his shoulders, saw the game well. Saw a little, but not much, of the passing evidence mentioned in OP.

Negatives - He was incredibly soft, hard to imagine that isn't the usual case even if he had been sick that week given just how soft he was. Toolson routinely drove right into him and went up and over him or got fouled. Dastrup relied pretty much only on his height to get boards/blocks. Had almost no vertical game. Could be symptom of illness, but once again hard to imagine his illness could have taken that much out of him if it is in his usual repertoire. His verticality was nonexistent. Didn't take advantage of his height down low, settled too often outside (hit 3's, but don't know that he missed a 2). Wanted to see him get inside a bit more when he was the tallest guy on the court by a good 5 inches.

On that night, Dastrup had something like 18 and 10. Toolson had 45 (including the most ridiculous high school free throw line of all time, I believe he was 23/26 from the stripe). Mountain View (Dastrup's team) did get the W thanks largely to their guard that blew up that night. I came away hopeful for Dastrup, but a bit concerned on softness and use of his size and honestly more excited about what Toolson might bring to the cougs with his athleticism and confidence.
