It just seems pretty short sighted to say Bronco's done an amazing job. I've talked with Cougar fans and Ute fans alike and among the Cougar faithful the concensus seems to be Bronco has reached his ceiling and BYU can't get to the next level with him. Among Ute fans (not the obnoxious ones but respectable Utah fans who are friends of mine) they say to me that it's gotta be frustrating having a HC like Bronco. He just seems outmatched v good coaches/teams. He's great for BYU and it's standards but he lacks the killer instinct. That's from our rivals' fans!

If Bronco's done an amazing job, then Whitt walks on water because he's owned Bronco and his teams. When Utah had NO BUSINESS of beating us KWitt does. When we should pummel Utah, we lose or barely eek out a last minute victory. Not to take away from the elation of ripping out their hearts at the end of a game the utes thought they had in the bag, it's just that IMHO Bronco has been serviceable but not amazing.

He's a great spiritual leader of young men, there's no question about that. He's a good mission president type and an OK coach with some fanatical and redeeming qualities. I don't question he wants to win or his competitive spirit. I do, however, question his ability to get the team up for certain games, his assistant vetting/hiring, his in-game adjustment skills, his clock management and his player development (Ziggy is an outlier and we all know it).

I admit I don't know what's the answer for a replacement or who will take us to the promised land but I don't think it's Bronco. We should have had a sniff at a BCS bowl by now. I can count on one hand the number of quality wins we've had in the last 11 years. I'd need both hands and probably both feet to count the number of games we had no business losing but lost anyway or that were close losses and we didn't capitalize on our chances to win.

And enough with the Lavell comparisons his first or last 11 seasons. It's not the same. Bronco is better than Crowton but he's not better than Lavell or even on par with him. If Bronco were to coach another 16 years and destroy the Utes all 16 of those years, then let's talk.
