After watching these numbers for a few years, I think for BYU has been more successful against offense-first teams. UCLA is a top 25 ish team, but they lean on their offense. We slowed them down (until we ran out of gas) and were able to score on them. Michigan is a top 25 team that leans heavily on their defense and we got crushed.
When BYU faces teams that lean on their defense (think Virgina 2013, Missouri 2015, or Utah anytime) that's when we're running into trouble. Maybe I'll run some more numbers on this.
For this week, the team that most looks like Utah State's numbers is Boise State. Average offense and pretty good defense.
Boise was a tough game for BYU. Utah State should be interesting to see what BYU can do.
