Pretty much half the NFL runs the 3-4 these days
The days of the 3-4 D being a hindrance to recruiting should be over for BYU. NFL teams are embracing the flexibility it offers as well, and need DL guys who can play in it.
3-4 does not hurt recruiting anymore. BYU just needs to put more DL players in the league. That is the next step. Show that the BYU 3-4 gets guys ready for the next level. Ziggy amd Fangupo help. Bronson would help even moreso.
