Beating teams badly?
That team earned the moniker "cardiac cougars" because of all the late game heroics required to remain undefeated.
They trailed UNLV by 3 with under two minutes, Wyoming, New Mexico and Utah all also had late leads that required come from behind victories. As did Mississippi state. Five games against inferior competition that they just barely skated by.
Sure...there were some blowouts....Nevada for example. But others like Tulane saw the defense give up 35 points. The defense was bad.
2006, 2007, and 2009 were great seasons. Undefeated in conference, national rankings, and bowl wins over nationally respected programs.
