But at the end of the day, it's not like the NFL/NCAA/Highschool leagues knew all along but they let them play and hit the way they did anyways. My parents signed permission waivers knowing full well the risks. I didn't play college but all of those guys know the risks, NFL too. Equipment has improved, and they have modified the rules to protect as best as they can. But it's a violent and glorious game.
I feel bad for guys like Mcmahon and Young. They took gruesome shots, had their heads bounce of those concrete hard Astro turf fields with their weak helmets. But it was a voluntary thing. Still is today.
