if a legitimate corporate enterprise wanted to bring on sales people to grow their business (and taking their corporate profits along the way) they would hire an experience sales person, either in the product or in sales, or more likely both.
They would then invest in training that person; provide them with the literature, collateral, pay travel, and in some cases, have a training wage, or base, even if its temporary.
They pick a good candidate and then invest in them to bring them to a level to succeed.
An unethical enterprise, "hires" any and every "sales person" regardless of experience or knowledge. They don't care WHO they "hire" because they invest zero in their development or training.
They have to buy their products, buy their training materials, buy any and all events, cover all their own transportation and of course, make nothing along the way.
They have zero regard for the well being of that sales person, or the likelihood of them succeeding because they don't care: they have nothing invested.
