Yeah, that's kind of an important point. But it doesn't chang the analysis much.
I'm still not sure MSU would be ahead of them now. Not with a similar SOS and a worse record. Probably if they beat Iowa, then yes.
Nevertheless, there are several scenarios where Memphis could make the playoff or be right on the cusp. If anything, Memphis proves its certainly possible. Probably more possible than BYU getting in as an independent (given the fact the BYU cannot win a conference championship).
