Having seen both Big12 and Pac12 football up close...
From what I saw (Holiday Bowl games) the pageantry of Big12 football runs circles around Pac12. Made me a believer. UCLA's atmosphere this year was good in the Rose Bowl, but it's LA--there were probably 10 other better things to do in LA that night. In Big12 country I think football is king.

I might be biased because I have no desire as a fan to visit any of the dumpy places that make up the Big 12
