Question about subletting
I have to move with 3 or 4 months left on my lease on my apartment. My landlord told me I'm not technically allowed to sublet it, but one of the managers said "as long as they didn't know about it" I could.... whatever that means. Otherwise I have to pay a 2 month penalty. Problem is, I doubt I'd be able to sublet it to someone without the perk of taking over the lease on their own when mine is up. But that that doesn't seem like an option since I'd have to do it under the table (apt would have to be vacated for inspection, etc). So is it worth dealing with that hassle or do I just pay the 2 month fee and get on with it? Also, does my landlord have the legal option of denying me subletting privileges? Seems weird to me.
